CPE Policy

New Certified Member CPE Requirements

A new Certified Member's next step will be to earn CPE to maintain the Credential. It is important that Certified Members obtain CPE of at least the minimum required amount every year to stay current in their profession.

CPE Requirements

Certified Members will need to complete 20 hours per twelve month period. At least 10 of these 20 hours must relate directly to Forensic Science Research. Up to 10 CPE hours in excess of the minimum requirements may be carried forward from one CPE year to the next CPE year to meet the requirements of the following year. CPE credits earned prior to certification are not eligible for rollover.

How much CPE do I need to earn and when is it due?

A new Certified Member is exempt from CPE requirements from the day they become certified through their next anniversary month. Therefore, each new Certified Member will have a different exemption timeframe based on when they became certified and when their anniversary month occurs.

For example:

Mr. A became a Certified in July 2009. His anniversary month is October. Mr. A is exempt for the remainder of the 2009 CPE October anniversary year which ends in his anniversary month of October 2009. Mr. A's first reporting period to earn CPE will be the 2010 CPE year and will run between November 2009 and October 2010, based on his anniversary month

Ms. S became a Certified in January 2010. Her anniversary month is July. Ms. S is exempt for the remainder of the 2010 CPE July anniversary year which ends on her anniversary month of July 2010. Ms. S's first reporting period to earn CPE will be the 2011 CPE year and will run between August 2010 and July 2011, based on her anniversary month
